I’m a new patient, for a couple of weeks now. Dr.D is amazing, so is Alex and Teiea. I had an appointment yesterday then one again today for a root canal. Never had any issues with staff they are all so kind and professional. Except today unfortunately. A Latin/Mexican woman in purple scrubs name Giselle or Gizelle (either pronounced Jiz-ell or Guh-zell so I am told) She called me from the back and scrunched up her face when I stood up and said yes I am the patient after her calling my name. She then proceeds to walk me down the hall and asks me about my name and how I got my name and my ethnicity. Since I am African-American and my name is a traditionally Hispanic name. I explained to her my mother is Hispanic and African American and that my father is African American. Unfortunately we get to the room it doesn’t stop. I’m still being questioned by her about my ethnic background and looked at like I’m a foreign object. She continues to say things like so your mixed??and that she wasn’t expecting it(Which can be left open for negative interpretation given the context… like what were you not expecting Giselle?? That I’m black with a Hispanic name well I apologize I don’t look like you or how you think I should look) Not sure why I’m being investigated about my ethnic background instead of being prepped for my ROOT CANAL. I told her I was uncomfortable with what she was doing and asked for a different assistant. She ignores me then puts the drape around my neck then leaves. Two new assistants came to help Jess and Tia. No one apologized Jess came in and said let’s move forward I said I agree and that I would file a complaint later. Tia comes in and tries to explain that Giselle didn’t mean to be offensive. Then Tia calls her back into the room later to help with x rays, which I was not okay with but couldn’t say anything as my surgery had already begun and I could not speak. Overall good dental office but Giselle is ignorant and bad for business, if individuals do not possess the decency to keep commentary to themselves, read the room, and realize there is a place and time for everything they cannot be trusted to work in public spaces.

What is the Mouth-Body Connection® ?

The Mouth-Body Connection® refers to the link between oral health and overall health, and the role that the harmful bacteria and inflammation in our mouths play in chronic, systemic disease. That’s why it’s time we talked about more than your teeth. Our office prioritizes your overall health as it relates to your oral health. When we care for your smile we’re also looking out for your entire self.
